How I started this website.

I have been corresponding with George Cairncross of Filey, since about 1980, and it was George who has been sending me the information that has formed the basis of the family trees appearing on the web site.
My father John had been on holiday in Filey around the late 1980's and had noticed a shop bearing the name Cairncross & Son at the entrance.
Dad went in and met George, who asked if he was interested in supplying family details. Dad said he was not, but that I might be, and gave George my address.
Hence, he wrote to me. I still have letters written by George going back to January 1989!!
We are not related (by belonging to the same family tree), but we have met. Most of the stuff George sent was photocopied documents of bad quality in most cases.
I discussed with George, the possibility of posting all the info on a website, which he thought was a great idea, but didn't have the skills to do it.
Neither did I, but I thought it would be interesting to learn how to do it. So, I did.
The site has been visited regularly by Cairncrosses (and others) from all over the world, although it is not always possible to know where people live, as with yourself.
Information that has been sent to me has enabled me to add to and update the site. Which was the original idea.
I has become a bit of a monster, as I am committed to replying to the many emails I get (which I enjoy), plus updating the site.
This is more tedious as I need to keep a 'word' copy of the whole site, enabling me to do speedy searches, on names and dates.
Then the HTML version needs updating, then uploading.
As you can see, I have not yet done any actual research, but am not ruling this out at some point in the future.
I would also like to take a trip to the areas of Scotland where the Cairncrosses were landowners back in the 1400/1500's.
